Borno state, Monguno - Tragedy struck an internally displaced persons (IDPs) camp in the Monguno local government area of Borno State when a building collapsed in a primary school classroom sheltering the occupants.

The tragic incident resulted in the death of six persons.

According to Leadership, Intelligence sources said the classroom collapsed around 7 p.m. on Monday, August 28, following torrential rains the previous day.

The sources disclosed four died on the spot while two others died at the hospital.

"Four of the victims died on the spot, five others wounded were rushed to the hospital where two of them later died,"

It was gathered that the affected classroom had been weakened from a previous fire outbreak and recent heavy rainfall in the area.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the death of many people has been confirmed following the collapse of a block of flats in Oyo state.

The tragic incident transpired on Saturday, April 22 at the Sango Police Barracks in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

The collapsed structure sits in front of a residential three-storey building in the area.

Similarly, no fewer than two persons have been confirmed dead as another building collapsed in Abuja, on Wednesday, April 19.

Reports have it that the workers were feared dead after a fence structure collapsed at the site on Wednesday.

Four workers were said to have been rescued alive, while two were fatally injured as the search and rescue operation continues, the DG of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) confirmed to newsmen.

Nyesom Wike, the new minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Thursday, August 24, ordered the immediate arrest of the owner of a two-storey building that collapsed in Abuja.

The building collapsed on the night of Wednesday, August 23.
