The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested no fewer than 307 suspected criminals in Gidan Dambe, located along the Dei-Dei and Zuba axis of the city.

The development followed an operation led by the FCT Commissioner of Police (CP), Benneth Igwe, at about 11:30 pm on Sunday.

The operation under the codename: Operation Velvet, is aimed at raiding marked black spots in the FCT.

Igwe, during a press briefing on Monday, disclosed that operatives of the tactical teams of the Command had recovered one English Pistol with 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

The police said, its operatives recovered the exhibits from one Ibrahim Tukur, who claimed to be a staff member of the Department of State Services.

The police also recovered other exhibits such as motorcycles, wraps of marijuana, illicit substances and other valuables suspected to have been stolen from innocent residents.

Investigations are, however, ongoing as the suspects are undergoing screening, the police boss noted.

On Saturday, the FCT CP launched Operation Velvet including all the Tactical teams of the Command to curb all forms of vehicular criminality and other crimes in the territory.

"The Commissioner of Police further cautions officers against extortion of residents and to adopt professionalism in the discharge of their lawful duties, as security of the populace remains his utmost priority.

"He equally urges residents to report suspicious activities through the following emergency lines; 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883; PCB: 09022222352," the FCT Police Command said.
